Electrical properties of sedimentary microfacies and depositional environment deduced from core analysis of the syn-rift sediments, Northwestern shore of Gulf of Suez, Egypt

Abstract The present work is based mainly on core rock samples investigation of CSS-38 well, northwest Gulf Suez, Egypt. cores cover the whole South Gharib Formation (upper Miocene). stratigraphic succession Suez includes three mega units, recorded from old to young as pre-rift, syn-rift, and post-rift sediments. syn-rift sediments are Nukhul, Rudies, Kareem, Belayim Equivalent, Gharib, Zeit. reveal that not a good reservoir. It consists sulphate-rich beds with few carbonates intercalation, laminated dolomitic limestone marly limestone. Patchy oil staining detected in thin streaks basal microfacies found be evaporites, carbonates, calcareous marl, claystone. Evaporites considered most frequent microfacies. Gypsum anhydrite generally represented by nearly equal distribution parallel variation content. differentiated into seven zones depositional environment; they arranged base top shallow sub-tidal, lagoonal, intertidal, supra-tidal Sabkha cycles. Some were measured electrically. We will try highlight interrelations between electrical (conductivity, permittivity, impedance) petrophysical properties petrography mineral composition. Electrical frequency range 10 Hz 100 kHz. dielectric constant decreases increasing increases conductor content (up percolation threshold). conductivity increase frequency.
